Overview

The design for the Cree global headquarters is part of a life science adaptive-reuse redevelopment that fosters collaboration and showcases innovative applications of LED technology.

Cree LED selected HH Architecture to design its global headquarters at Park Point in Research Triangle Park. The facility is 90,000 square feet within an existing building shell that is part of a life science adaptive-reuse redevelopment of the former Nortel campus.

This project included surveying and documentation of laboratory equipment, analyzing existing processes and flows, and developing programming and test fits. The facility was designed on an accelerated schedule with permitting documents completed in less than eight months. A construction management team was consulted early in the process to provide a pre-construction budgeting analysis, and the design and construction team proactively managed supply chain issues.

The final space accommodates administrative functions as well as research, development, and reliability laboratories–including maker spaces and instrument testing areas for prototype and product development. It consolidates several functions under one roof, improving adjacencies to increase efficiency across all operations. The overall design fosters collaboration and showcases innovative applications of LED technology.
