State Farmers Market Master Plan
Overview
With the conversion of the Dorothea Dix property into a significant urban park, the adjacent State Farmers Market has an opportunity to substantially improve its visibility in the community, increase its annual revenue as a regarded component of North Carolina’s agricultural economy, and distinguish itself as a nationally recognized destination.
The master plan aims to support farmers by providing greater access to the Market, improving retail and produce operations, and increasing the number of customers through coordination with adjacent developments. It also creates an identity and experience for the market to improve pedestrian focus, create recognizable districts and distinctive entrances, and incorporate an agricultural theme throughout the campus. Additionally, the master plan will create connectivity to surrounding destinations such as Dorothea Dix Park.
