The new Ronald McDonald House of Durham was designed to give families of seriously ill children who travel from around the world to receive specialized care at Duke Children’s Hospital a place to call “home” for up to a year at a time. This 40,000 square foot facility includes 55 total rooms, 28 of which are new multi-room suites. With this addition, this Ronald McDonald House became one of the largest on the east coast, doubling the number of families served.
We developed a design that is LEED Silver equivalent, using low maintenance materials and naturally day-lit spaces. Our programming and advanced planning work with the Ronald McDonald House staff, board, and families produced a comprehensive yet accessible document that will guide design and operational decisions for years to come.
