HH Architecture designed the Governor James G. Martin Building, a 9,500 square foot meeting facility at the NC State Fairgrounds. The building was designed to serve a multitude of purposes, with a large daylit porch adjacent to an indoor meeting space that increases the rentable area. The Martin building is a “gateway” to the main fairgrounds campus, recognizable as a landmark for those entering the Fairgrounds and for lost families during the Fair itself.
The design process included analysis of pedestrian traffic at both fair and non-fair times. The porch becomes a central nexus—both a gathering place and a respite from the crowds.
Daylight monitors to reduce or eliminate the need for lighting during the day. HVAC Heat-recovery technology. Low maintenance, durable building materials. This facility was designed to be LEED Certified equivalent.
