City Lake Park has been a staple of the High Point community for nearly 90 years. With several nearby buildings recognized by the Jamestown historic district dating back well into the 1800s and the park itself dating back to the 1930s, citizens of High Point celebrate and honor their past. With that in mind, our design team sought to create a place that not only recognizes the Park’s illustrious history, but also provides citizens with a connection with their past that can be maintained and showcased for future generations.
HH Architecture developed a two-phase master plan that provided several infrastructure and facility recommendations to the approximately 243.3-acre park. The master plan aimed to meet the changing needs of the community while preserving the Park’s meaningful history.
The City hired HH Architecture to complete the work outlined in phase-one of the master plan which includes the renovation of the 6,800 SF gymnasium into a multipurpose meeting center with offices, remodeling locker rooms and the concessions area, and the renovation to the outdoor swimming pool to include 50-meter pool, splash pad, lifestyle pool, and new water slide.
Several site improvements were also included in this project with creating a great lawn and stage, additional parking, enhanced connectivity throughout the park, and a bridge across the lake connecting City Lake Park to the Piedmont Environmental Center, High Point Greenway, and the Bicentennial Greenway.
