The City of Raleigh Celebrates Opening of the Hill Street Park Center in East Central Raleigh

The City of Raleigh Parks and Recreation Department held a ribbon cutting for the opening of the Hill Street Park Center on January 9th. The neighborhood center was conceived in a master planning process for the 16 acre property, which will be transformed into a nature-oriented, walkable, and education-oriented neighborhood park. The ribbon cutting ceremony for the park center included City Councilman John Odom, Diane Sauer and Dick Bailey from the Raleigh Parks and Recreation Department, along with local residents.

Designed by HH Architecture, the 3,700 square foot neighborhood center includes a large multi-purpose room, an activity room, a staff office, a conference room, and a kitchen. Exterior features include a sheltered outdoor classroom with wireless access. The City of Raleigh Parks and Recreation Department will provide programmed activities and events serving the surrounding community.

The Hill Street Park Center includes many sustainable features such as a planted green roof, ample daylighting, energy efficient fixtures and systems, and durable construction materials. Lappas + Havener developed the master plan for Hill Street Park, which includes a playground and park-wide trail system.
