The N.C. Zoo celebrated the grand opening of the polar bear exhibit with state and local dignitaries, and a large crowd of parents, children, and visitors. The $8.5 million project will triple the size of the Zoo’s most popular exhibit, adding a new 15,000 sq. ft. habitat area, a new 2,400 sq. ft. holding building, a new 7,500 sq. ft. open-air education center, and improvements to the existing swimming area. Visitors can now get a close-up view of the bears with floor-to-ceiling glass in the education center.
